Time for a Rematch Photograph Soo Burnell
Two players in crisp whites, a bench, and a sage-green pavilion that hasn't changed since the last century. Nobody is mid-swing. The match is either over or about to begin.
Soo Burnell builds her scenes with the hush of a painting and a wink she never explains. Wooden racquets rest at their sides. The clapboard is the color of old celadon. The lawn is cut to perfection and the sky is soft and overcast, so every detail holds still. It's nostalgia with a little tension underneath, and the title suggests there's unfinished business.
This piece wants a wall of its own. Hang it above a sideboard, at the end of a hallway, or as the anchor of an entry, where it can set the tone before anyone says a word. The sage and grass tones sit comfortably with aged brass, warm wood, and linen, and they hold their own against a deep, saturated wall.
